Check role-specific CPR and first aid requirements, accepted training, certification deadlines and renewal options for nanny work.

Check the CPR and first aid requirements for each role before booking a course. Confirm the accepted provider, course coverage and deadline for completion.

What Certification Do You Need?

Ask whether the role requires infant, child and adult CPR, first aid and AED training. Match the course to the ages you will care for and the employer’s stated requirements.

Check the expiry date on your certificate. Red Cross CPR certification and AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED completion cards are valid for two years.

What Counts as Accepted Certification

The American Red Cross requires an in-person skills assessment for workplace-eligible CPR certification. AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED offers classroom or blended training with hands-on skills. Confirm the chosen course is accepted by the agency or employer.

Timing also varies. Westside Nannies permits certification upon hire under its published requirements. Check the deadline for your role rather than assuming it must precede an application.

Where to Get Certified in Los Angeles

Use the Red Cross or AHA course finder to check available training. Before booking, confirm the location, course coverage, total cost, duration and any separate skills-session fee.

Keep It Current

Set a reminder before your certificate expires and check the provider’s renewal options. Confirm the course and timing meet your employer’s requirements.

Why It Matters Beyond the Checkbox

Choose training that lets you practice the required skills, and keep your certification current for the role. Save a copy of your certificate so you can provide it when requested.
